In 1961, scientist Reed Richards, along with his friend Ben Grimm, his girlfriend Sue Storm, and her younger brother Johnny, appropriated an experimental rocket for an unauthorized space flight. When they were bombarded by intensive cosmic rays, the four adventurers gained amazing powers. As Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, The Thing, and the Human Torch, they became the Fantastic Four. During a run of nearly forty years, many other heroes and villains have made their first appearances in the pages of the FF, including the Silver Surfer, Galactus, Dr. Doom, and the Inhumans, as well as notable alien races such as the Kree and the Skrulls.

This series reprints classic stories from the early years of Fantastic Four Volume 1, focusing on events considered to be pivotal moments in the history of the team and the lives of the individual members.
