The Generic Comic

    (Marvel, 1983)
™ and ©1984 Marvel Entertainment Group

This is absolutely one of the strangest experiments Marvel has ever done. In the Generic Comic Book, the gang at Marvel gives us A Super-Hero complete with 2.65 Super-Powers, and the standard Assortment of Neurotic Tendencies. The Hero, of course, has A Girlfriend, which provides us with The Subplot.

Of course, no comic book (even a generic one) would be complete without at least A Super-Villain, who is bent on world destruction, and whose battles with the super-hero “fill the remaining pages.” Naturally, you also get An Unexpected Plot-Twist, and A Shocking Surprise.

The really funny part about all this is that it’s done with a straight face. This one-shot definitely goes down in comic history, if only for its truth in packaging.
