Lobo: A Contract on Gawd

    (DC, 1994)
™ and ©1994 DC Comics

This is a four issue, ultraviolent (and funny) series by Alan Grant and Kieron Dwyer. It seems that there’s this god named “Gawd,” (not “God”) who created a planet called “Paradize” (not “Paradise”). Everything was just ducky until the inhabitants of Paradize decided that they wanted to become an on-the-go, competitive planet and industrialize. Gawd didn’t like this and blasted lightning bolts into anyone who would even broach the subject. Gawd, it seems, thought Paradize was fine the way it was.

So a group of monks went offworld to find Lobo and put a hit on their deity. Lobo, intrigued by the offer (and the potential for mindless violence), was inclined to accept. The problem was that he had promised Vril Dox (of L.E.G.I.O.N.) that he wouldn’t accept any more murder-for-hire cases.

No problem. He’d just have to kill Gawd for free!
