™ and ©1983 Warren Publishing Co.

Writer/artist Jim Starlin weaves a tale of sorcery, interstellar intrigue, and ultimate betrayal in this story of a young prince and his estranged father. When his father is imprisoned and the throne usurped, Darklon barters away his birthright, his life, and even his soul for the mystical power needed to regain his father’s kingdom. But the price of power is often more than it seems, and Darklon finds he has become an outcast, a bogeyman to frighten the young and old alike. His sorcerous abilities are almost godlike, and he is feared even by the father he once saved. Starlin’s story utilizes a plot twist that has often been used, but is still unexpected in this well-told sci-fi/fantasy. At the moment of Darklon’s greatest battle, the reader suddenly realizes the adventure may be just the sad dreams of an earthly coma patient.
