The Fightin’ Five consisted of Hank Hennessey, a captain from the special forces and the unofficial leader of the Five; Granite Gallero, his right-hand man, and an expert in weaponry; Frenchy the Fox, a specialist in demolitions and underwater work; Irv the Nerve, a highly resourceful former investigator; and Tom Tom, and Olympic wrestler. They pool their skills to combat crime and such fanciful villains as D.E.A.T.H. (Dedicated Enemies of And Traitors to Humanity—also the first initials of each member’s names). Despite the agents’ high-tech schemes, the Fightin’ Five always win out with their wits.

This series is also notable for issue #40’s introduction of Peacemaker in a backup story. Peacemaker was Chris Smith, a man who deplored violence but would strap on a special battle suit and confront evil directly when there was no other option. Eventually Peacemaker moved to DC where he became a much darker character.
