Dark Horse Comics is one of the leading American publishers of manga comics. In 1992, they added to their already impressive list of Japanese titles by releasing an English translation of Johji Manabe’s Caravan Kidd.

The series is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth where resources are so scarce that traders can charge incredibly high amounts of money for anything. Two of these traders, Babo, a weird little creature, and Wataru, a human boy, are a couple of the best. They make a good living off the needs of others, although Wataru seems to feel a little more sympathy for the needy people who can not afford their goods. Even Babo becomes strangely likable, however, when they are tricked into following a mysterious woman into the Wastelands. This woman is Mian Toris, an accomplished warrior who is being chased by what seems like the entire Helgebard Empire. And for Babo and Wataru, their troubles are only beginning…
