Many years ago before he became one of Mad Magazine’s Usual Gang of Idiots, Drew Friedman wrote and drew the strips in this collection. Most of them originally appeared in the smaller “punk” music magazines and fanzines of the era, and this book was a chance to read them all together in one sitting. Most of the strips feature scathing parodies of celebrities, including the wedding of Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors, and the “Bob Hope 100th Birthday Special” (done when Bob was only about 80-something). It’s a very funny, yet sometime bizarre read. The book was issued twice: in an over-sized Life Magazine size, and then reissued many years later in a more manageable 8½”x11” size.
