Howard Chaykin’s work has always had a ribald undercurrent to it, and with Angel and the Ape, the undercurrent gives way to a flood. Mercilessly toying with characters like “Bambi Dextrous,” “Bahbi Ganoozsh” and “Dwight Kaywight,” Chaykin’s salacious series is a satire of detectives, sex, fashion, and just about everything else he can find. When famous model Bambi Dextrous goes missing, her boss Torso Von Morso hires O’Day, Simeon Investigations to find her, the trail leading past a smorgasbord of colorful situations.
