DC continues its reprint series of some of the most pivotal comics to ever be published.

August 1941 saw the premiere of Police Comics from Quality Comics. Multiple stories were the mainstay of the title, but the primary character highlighted on the early covers was The Firebrand. The Human Bomb, Phantom Lady, and the Mouthpiece were also included, yet the biggest surprise was a new character created by humor artist and writer Jack Cole-Plastic Man.

With detailed art and outrageous shapes, Plas quickly became the lead story and lasted through 102 issues in Police and even had his own title 1943 through 1956. This first issue showed the end of his early career as criminal Eel O’Brian when a bullet wound became infected with a strange chemical acid, allowing him to change shape at will. Choosing to become a hero and give up the criminal life, Plastic Man became known for it’s sophisticated humor and slapstick antics-a big change from the usually serious super-hero.
