X-Farce
(Eclipse, 1992)
Story ©1992 Don Chin. Art ©1992 Bob Hanon and Bill Maus
Join Cable TV, Eightball, Tonto (not that one), Dominoze, Shboom Shboom, Garferal, and Fallenstar as they take on the Evil Archrival Mpuppet Liberation Front in Eclipse’s one-shot parody of Marvel’s X-Force, circa 1992.
X-fans will cringe as the “multies” take on the likes of Baldspot, Cesspool, Giddy One, and Sabrebeak. The jokes come fast and furious, and every aspect of Marvel’s mutant line—the multitude of characters, the staggeringly intricate back story, the paid-by-the-word nature of the writing, the overrendered figure drawing, the speculator’s mentality that drives the whole enterprise, and most of all, the angst—are lampooned. Students of pop culture will notice subtle references to Pee Wee Herman, Garfield, the Muppets, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Domino’s Pizza, Geraldo Rivera, Donald Trump, Pogo and others.
For another take on the subject, see DC’s Doom Force.
