This was the first ongoing series to star Chapel, the elite soldier who once served with Al Simmons (Spawn), then coldly slew him when so ordered. As the new series begins, Chapel had discovered his own betrayal by his masters, and had actually taken his own life in an attempt to gain supernatural powers. He succeeded in this and returned from the dead. Then, he battled his old masters and lost. His new power—and the memory of it—had been stripped from him, leaving him alive but without direction for the first time.
