Now & Then

    (New Flame, 2003)
™ and © 2003 Nabiel Kanan

This collection of short stories and one-page vignettes is a great introduction to writer/artist Nabiel Kanan (The Drowners). The title story is a simple tale of a family man returning to the place where he experienced his first teen love—a love that was never fulfilled. This short and seemingly simple story lingers in the reader’s mind as a poignant and resonant tapestry of opportunities lost, reminiscences of times past and the empty feeling of missing youth. The rest of the one-shot is rounded out with a lighter series of 80s Modern Rock one page critiques that are amusing and endearing for any fan of classic British bands like The The, The Smiths or Morrissey.
