Jademan Comics, a publisher in Hong Kong exported this title, (in addition to “Buddha’s Palm,” “Drunken Fist” and “Blood Sword Dynasty”), to an American audience eager for martial arts stories in the early 1990s. Much of the appeal can be attributed to the lavish, dynamic artwork, which compensates for the rudimentary plots. Iron Marshal is a supremely gifted martial artist who excels at kung fu and is usually pitted against a plethora of foes. Aside from the physical attraction of the combat, there is often a mystical aspect to the opponents that Iron Marshal faces. Translated from Chinese, the dialogue often seems stilted and awkward even by comic book standards.
