Scarecrow (Villains)

    (DC, 1998)
™ and ©1998 DC Comics

Jonathan Crane, a.k.a. the Scarecrow, is the master of fear. Using a keen knowledge of psychology along with a potent fear gas, he has reduced even Batman to a whimpering coward on several occasions. But then he met the girl he couldn’t scare.

A law student had the guts—or foolishness—to stand up in court to help send him to jail. When the Scarecrow inevitably escaped, he made it his mission not just to kill her, but also to break her spirit. To do this, he would unleash her innermost fear. But, as Nietzsche said, “If you stare into the abyss for too long, the abyss stares back.”

Perhaps this time, it’s the Scarecrow who’ll end up scared.

This one-shot was released as part of a slew of “New Years Evil” specials, featuring villains of the DC universe.
