Gunfighter

    (E.C., 1948-1950)
™ and © William M. Gaines, Agent

The E.C. title was one of the first to morph from an earlier title. Gunfighter #4 was completely different: Ed Wheelan’s Fat and Slat. Three of the artists most associated with the classic era of E.C. did work for the title—Graham Ingels, Al Feldstein, and Johnny Craig. The lead character was The Buckskin Kid. As the E.C. line shifted and changed to find its spot in the marketplace, it kept the numbering but radically changed title and contents of its later-designated “Pre-Trend” titles. At the end of its run, it morphed again: into the E.C. horror title The Haunt of Fear with #15.
