Graphic Nonfiction: George Washington

    (Rosen, 2005)
™ and © Rosen

Obviously designed for classroom use, this piece of “graphic nonfiction” chronicles the life of America’s first president, George Washington. You won’t find any cherry trees here, though—just the straight-forward facts. We learn that as a boy Washington idolized his older brother, that he rose to prominence in the French and Indian War, that he was a brilliant strategist during the American Revolution, and that he was the overwhelming choice to be the first President of the United States of America. All of this is presented with fairly dry text and workmanlike pictures. There are also prose features on the history of Colonial America and the growth of America after Washington’s death, as well as a glossary of significant terms. A nice package, if a bit on the dry white toast side.
