Clayton Piker was out on patrol in Viet Nam when his sergeant was cut down by a sniper. As it turned out, however, this was no ordinary sniper—and his dying sergeant was not exactly ordinary either. With his dying breaths, the sergeant revealed that he was actually an alien being from another dimension. The sniper who had shot him was a man he’d been hunting throughout the ages: a dangerous shapeshifter called Orlak. Orlak was considered so dangerous that the alien race decided that it would be better to destroy the entire Earth rather than to risk letting him escape.

But there was one chance for Earth’s survival: Piker could agree to “integrate” with the alien and take on the hunt. He would become another kind of soldier—a Man of War—with incredible strength and abilities. But each time he uses those abilities, he shortens his own lifespan. Can he find and stop Orlak before it’s too late?
