Moondog
(Print Mint, 1970-1973, 1979)
™ and ©1971 George Metzger
Moondog is a collection of tales of a postcataclysmic world where few machines still work, and the remaining humans have adopted a variety of social structures to survive. The Moondog of the title and lead strips is a blind shaman, who with his companions is on a quest for the mythical Western Lands, California to you and me. Along the way they undergo various mystical experiences. Metzger’s idealistic hippie philosophy provides an individual viewpoint, but ultimately the scant compensation doesn’t reward struggling through the awkward writing and art.
