Scooby Doo, Where Are You? (Charlton)
(Charlton, 1975-1976)
™ and © Charlton Publications, Inc.
Although the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? cartoon series debuted in 1969, it continued to become a phenomenon throughout the 70s and 80s. In the mid-70s, Charlton Comics licensed the series to capitalize on its success and also target young readers with a familiar and accessible product. Like the show, Charlton’s version starred five mystery hunters – Freddy, Daphne, Velma, “Shaggy,” and the goofy, lovable dog Scooby-Doo – who drove around in a colorful van they nicknamed “The Mystery Machine.” Aimed at children who were just beginning to read, Charlton’s adaptation captured the show’s slapstick humor and easy-to-follow storylines.
