It is several decades after the arrival of the human astronaut, Leo Davidson, and the ape society is in turmoil. A band of rebels, comprised of apes and humans and supplied with field artillery, threaten the established order predicated on ape superiority. Within the senate, bitter arguments rage to determine a solution. The sitting chairman favors negotiation, much to the disgust of Minister Shiva, who utilizes xenophobic rhetoric to advocate genocide, along with a personal elevation of her own power and status.

This series is set on the version of the Planet of the Apes from director Tim Burton, who in 2001 undertook the arduous task of reinterpreting a classic movie that was largely dependent on a surprise ending. Since the integrity of a remake could not depend on that surprise, changes were necessary.
