Silver Star (Jack Kirby’s…)

    (Topps, 1993-1994)
™ and ©1993 Jack Kirby

Morgan Miller is Silver Star. Morgan’s father had been Doctor Bradford “Cowboy” Miller, a scientist who wanted to ensure that mankind would survive even a nuclear war. Greeted by scorn from his fellow scientists, he nevertheless implanted a “genetic package” in his wife and several other women. Most of the children born died of a strange aging disease, but Morgan Miller grew into a healthy boy. His powers manifested themselves in the midst of military duty, giving him invulnerability and incredible strength.

Jack Kirby originally created Silver Star for ill-fated Pacific Comics. Pacific fell victim to the mid-eighties shake-out in independent comics, and Silver Star vanished with it. The 1990s saw a new wave of publishers entering the market, including Topps, which had formerly published only trading cards. Topps negotiated with “King” Kirby to start a new “Kirbyverse,” centered around Jack Kirby’s Secret City Saga. This deal also gave us the return of Silver Star.
