Batman: Manbat

This three-issue mini-series pits Batman against Kirk Langstrom, the Manbat. The caped crusader begins the chase in an attempt to recover a deadly genetic plague virus stolen from Eden Corp. by erstwhile do-gooder Marilyn Munro. Batman traces her to the Southwestern desert, where she stumbled into a vast underground cavern inhabited by the batlike Kirk Langstrom and his followers. Gifted by providence with the means of mankind’s destruction, this race of bat-creatures seizes upon the virus as a tool for wiping humanity from the face of the earth.

This story was an “Elseworlds” saga, freeing the writers to explore alternate versions of the DC universe. This version is a true nightmare, brought to life by veteran horror writer Jamie Delano (Hellblazer) and acclaimed painter John Bolton (Black Dragon).
