The Slab

In the wake of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, many Americans didn’t know quite how to react to a landscape that had been forever changed. In and around the vicinity of The Slab, essentially a trailer park in Southern California, some are taking steps to change their lives accordingly, while some were headed that way already. Survivalists, industrialists, and serial killers pass the time leading violent, ruthless, and brutal existences in response to a hostile and uncaring world they care little for themselves, unaware that a mysterious force surrounding them is working to alter their lives even further.

This prose novel by Jeff Mariotte (WildC.A.T.s, Desperadoes: Quiet of the Grave) brings to mind the popular novels of Stephen King, as common people driven by sex and violence find their paths intersecting and their worlds turned upside down by a greater, horrifying force.
