Nightcrawler (Vol. 2)
(Marvel, 2002)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.
In a storyline snatched from today’s headlines, the X-Men’s resident acrobat, teleporter and student of the priesthood finds himself giving sanctuary to a panicked young Thai woman. Despite the language barrier that exists between them, Nightcrawler learns that the girl is the victim of an international slave ring. Working without his fellow X-Men, Kurt Wagner finds himself enmeshed in a web of intrigue and danger easily as sinister and deadly as anything he ever faced as part of a super-hero team. Writer Chris Kipiniak and artist Matthew Smith spin a gripping yarn in this limited series, a far cry from Nightcrawler’s last lighthearted outing back in the 1980s. Here, Kurt Wagner’s character has much more depth as we see not a mutant or super-hero, but a devout young man trying to follow the dictates of his heart and his God.
