Mora

This bizarre dark fantasy tale begins the story of a young girl with a sensitivity to the supernatural world who will eventually grow up to become the greatest and most terrible witch ever to live. Told by the tortoise and the hare (yes, that tortoise and hare), this is also the story of two other “children”—one a human baby, the other a lion cub—and how their three fates are intertwined.

Harmon has created something with Mora that is rare in comics: a combination of horror story and fable that will unfold over the course of the entire series like a poem. This first issue begins with the ending of the story, then hooks the reader with its twisted characters and different premise, and then really hits that reader square in the face with its inspired graytone art.

There’s a lot to follow in this first issue, and it’s is only the very beginning. Pick up this series and be prepared for a wild ride.
