Before Barry Allen—the Flash—died in the Crisis on Infinite Earths, he lived for a time in the future of the 30th century with his wife, Iris. There, she gave birth to twins, Don and Dawn, who became known as the Tornado Twins. In turn, Don eventually had a son named Bart who inherited his grandfather’s speed.

Unfortunately, Bart’s speed came at a price: his metabolism was accelerated so that by the time he was two years old he appeared, physically, to be twelve. To help match his physical and mental ages, Bart’s parents had him educated in a virtual reality environment. In time, however, Bart would have died if his parents hadn’t brought him to this century to have the current Flash, Wally West, teach him how to control his speed. Today, he lives with Max Mercury, who is trying to teach him wisdom. The lesson is coming hard for Bart, however, who grew up in a world which was all just a big game.
