Barb Wire Movie Special
(Dark Horse, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Dark Horse Comics, Inc.
Barb Wire proved to be one of the more successful characters to come out of Dark Horse’s Comics’ Greatest World titles. In 1996, Barb Wire made it to the big screen starring Pamela Anderson in the title role.
The movie itself is essentially a futuristic remake of Casablanca. After the fascistic Congressional Directorate decided to throw out the Constitution, America broke out in a second American Civil War. Barb runs the Hammerhead bar in Steel Harbor, a shady crossroads of characters from both sides of the war (think: Rick’s All American). Barb had been a freedom fighter long ago, but has since decided to avoid politics and concentrate on running the bar. All was business as usual until an old flame appeared in the Hammerhead asking for Barb’s help in smuggling a fugitive freedom fighter out of town. While the resulting story has far more action than Casablanca, it lacks the romantic appeal of that classic movie.
