Joe Kubert and Norman Maurer’s One Million Years Ago was a groundbreaking comic, although it was little recognized as such. Kubert and Maurer put themselves into the comic to introduce readers to the various stories, all set in the world as it might have been at the dawn of mankind.

This comic featured three different stories, the first of which introduced Tor, Kubert’s legendary caveman. Tor was more than an adventure hero. His exploits were used to illustrate the dawning of conscience and morality in a world dominated quite literally by the law of the jungle. Kubert even went so far as to break the fourth wall at certain points in the story to point out the nature of the conflicts taking place. The other main features in this title were the improbable caveman comedy “The Wizard of Ugghh” and fantasy/adventure “Danny Dreams.” With issue #2, the comic would be retitled “3-D Comics.”
