Realworlds: Justice League of America
(DC, 2000)
™ and ©2000 DC Comics
Once upon a time, five Chicago kids pretended they were the world’s greatest super-heroes. Twenty-five years later, they became adults—a teacher, a struggling comic, a high-powered lawyer, and a TV executive—who fell victims to the greatest super-villain the real world has to offer: despair. But then, one Halloween, four of the old gang received mysterious packages, each containing a costume of their favorite hero. With the costumes came a tantalizing invitation to a Halloween party being thrown by the fifth member of their old gang, who now just happens to be the richest man in the world—and perhaps just a little bit insane. And so these jaded adults embark on another adventure, this time to recover a piece of their lost youth—and perhaps their very souls.
One of the best Realworlds stories of the line, this heart-warming if somewhat mawkish tale is delivered with great care and more than a little humor by writer J.M. DeMatteis (Blood) and artist G.L. Barr.
