Witching Hour

Witches narrate stories involving witchcraft and deceit, many of which have their climax near midnight…the witching hour. Featured in the pages of this eighty-five-issue series were stories such as “The Killer Came Slithering,” about a witch who cures a boy of his illness in exchange for him ripping up the mortgage on the witch’s church. When the boy’s father reneges on his promise, the snake-charming sorceress gets her own revenge in a very subtle and clever way—at midnight.

After almost ten years of bewitching readers, the witch’s lease must have run out, because in 1978 this series became part of The Unexpected, a series hosted by Abel in his own home, the House of Secrets.
