Scene of the Crime

    (Vertigo, 1999-2000)
™ and ©1999 Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark

Jack Herriman is a man with a past. He lost an eye when criminals took revenge on his policeman father for hanging some snitches out to dry after a big bust. He’s made some mistakes, but now he puts his natural ability to get into trouble to good use: he’s a private detective.

One night, outside his office, he runs into a person from his past. They were like family really, but in all the worst ways. He had sent some work Jack’s way. It seems a beautiful girl had gone missing. Ain’t that always the case?

This classic detective story is written by Ed Brubaker (Gangland, Dark Horse Presents), with art provided by Michael Lark (Terminal City). If you like a good, hardboiled detective story, this comic pulls it off while avoiding plot clichés.
