Man With the Screaming Brain

Based on the upcoming film by Bruce Campbell, The Man with the Screaming Brain hints at the promise of a great story to come. William Cole, CEO of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company, arrives in Bravoda to invest in the shattered city. Little does he know that a mad scientist (complete with his own sound effects) notices his arrival and plans to use him in ways he cannot imagine. What part do Yegor (ex–KGB taxi driver) and his gypsy friend play in the rest of the story? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

The characters of Yegor, Jackie, the gypsy, the mad scientist, and his cohort are hilariously written. Such dialogue as, “Yes. John Wayne and capital Nebraska is ‘Omaha’,” and, “Under communism, vowels were free,” make this a great story. The art by Rick Remember and Hilary Barta is perfect for the tongue–in–cheek storyline. While not “realistic,” it conveys the story and its satire effectively. While the issue by itself is a good comic book, the story might read even better with all four issues in hand.
