ZombieWorld: Home for the Holidays
(Dark Horse, 1997)
™ and ©1997 Gordon Rennie and Gary Erskine. Cover art ©1997 Brian Horton
Gathering at the palatial family estate every Christmas is considered a familial obligation for members of the Mathieson clan because there exists an underlying sense of resentment and dislike between many relatives. Nevertheless, old rivalries are put aside for the evening as everyone pretends they’re glad to be there. This Christmas, however, no such pretense will be sufficient to deny those long-buried sentiments, when family ancestors (also long-buried) drag themselves to the party in this Zombie World one-shot. A foreboding sense of doom is heightened considerably as the story cuts from scenes of Christmas cheer to the advancing zombie horde, unstoppable even by the National Guard. The reader’s expectations of heroism and cowardice by family members are rewarded as the Mathiesons rise and fall to the occasion.
This holiday special follows the three-issue mini-series, ZombieWorld: Champion of the Worms.
