The Bogie Man

It was a cold and stormy New Year’s eve in Greenock. Rain poured over the roof of the Spinbinnie Hospital, resting place for the mentally insane. There, in an upstairs room, Francis Forbes Clunie was seen dangling from a noose in his room. Only it wasn’t Clunie, merely a dummy—and the caretaker who rushed in to look after Clunie found himself bashed over the head by an attacker lurking in the shadows. The caretaker was then stripped of his uniform and keys, and the attacker slipped out into the night.

The attacker had the body of Francis Clunie, but as far as he was concerned, it was Humphrey Bogart who had gotten out. That, you see, was the particular nature of Clunie’s ailment. And now Bogie was wandering the streets of Scotland, wearing a trench coat and going after “The Fat Man” (a character from the old Bogart movie “The Maltese Falcon”).
