Shi: The Series

Shi: The series marks a second phase of the character and its publisher, Crusade Entertainment. Whereas Shi: The Way of the Warrior was a very personal, elegantly crafted work by creator Bill Tucci (with contributions by others as the series went on), Shi: The Series seems a much more conventional comic book action series.

Ana Ishikawa (Shi) had attempted to lay down her sword, but was forced to take it up again when her mother was kidnapped. Now, her friend Tomoe has asked for her aid again—this time to stop an oni (demon) bent on destroying all of Japan. It begins, improbably enough, with Tomoe traveling through time, landing in Hiroshima just before the dropping of the atomic bomb. Tomoe died trying to escape the city, only to awaken in 1997. There, she sought out Ana’s help to stop the oni behind her troubles, and together they travel to Japan where they discover that the demon has put together a nuclear device which he plans to detonate.
