Kore

Like many Image comics these days, it’s hard to tell if Kore (I’ll assume the title is short for “hard-core”) is an adaptation of a videogame or just a slick comic book that just looks like a videogame.

Like a videogame, both character and plot details are kept to a bare minimum, but it involves a lot of unnamed people looking for a high-end mystical knickknack. There’s Mandy, the fiery Latina who, when mad reverts to Spanish, and her skeevy jerk boyfriend, Crane. It’s established that Crane needs money when a loan shark’s goons thump him (why he borrowed the money, we’re never told), which motivates him to prowl around his job after hours, looking for something to swipe. There the knickknack merges him with the titular Kore, who is one cool looking monster (so tough, he doesn’t need any stinking pants). It’s pretty enough, with some slick art and strong colors, but the script could’ve used another pass through the word processor.
