Fritzi Ritz

Here is one in many cases in comics in which a supporting character eclipses the popularity of the original starring character. Other examples include Popeye taking over Thimble Theater and Snuffy Smith taking over Barney Google. In this case, Fritzi Ritz is a fledgling model trying to get modeling gigs, and trying to dodge the pursuits of lecherous men. The ongoing adventures eventually presented the debut of Fritzi’s niece Nancy, who later took over the strip and change it into a gag-a-day format.
