Couple
(CPM, 2004)
™ and © 2004 Jae Sung Park
Series canceled without conclusion in 2005.
File Couple in the manga tradition of nerdy romantic comedies, except in this case the series originated in Korea, not in Japan. Couple is a Korean comic book, otherwise known as “manhwa,” that is heavily influenced by its Japanese counterparts. Written by Jae Sung Park and illustrated by Sung Jae Park, Couple takes its cues from Maison Ikkoku and Love Hina. In the first paperback, college student Young Ho Han makes his initial step into adulthood, moving into his own apartment. But Yumi, a cute young woman who has no food, no money, and no place to live, immediately disrupts his life. Although Couple journeys through familiar material, it has likable characters that’ll help readers forget how derivative everything is.
