Masked Warrior X

    (Antarctic, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Masayuki Fujihara

This translated Japanese series only lasted four issues of a planned six, possibly because it’s a by-the-numbers manga with no distinguishing features. In a society where athletes are given cybernetic implants and sent to commit crimes, Dan is the invincible Kendo Warrior, the one force for good. Raised from birth to his position, his invincible armor has fused to him, and regenerates from his own body. Sadly the more interesting implications are never explored, pushed out by lengthy combat sequences punctuated by the occasional slapstick gag, usually involving the police, with whom Dan joins in the first issue. The title comes from his kendo mask and his habit of slicing his conquests with an “X” across their torso in Zorro fashion.
