The Cisco Kid

The Cisco Kid was the “Robin Hood of the Old West,” taking on evil ranchers, mining companies, stagecoach robbers, and anyone else who threatened the settlers on the American frontier in the 19th century. With the aid of comedic sidekick Pancho and his intrepid horse Diablo, Cisco patrolled the plains and high desert in pulp magazines, paperbacks, TV and radio shows, and comic books during the 1940s and ’50s.

After a tryout in Dell’s Four Color Comics, Cisco and Pancho (and their horses) graduated to a feature series that ran throughout the 1950s. Issues often featured realistically painted covers that stood out on the newsstands next to many of the competing titles. Readers would get two complete Cisco Kid tales in each book, along with a lighter backup story featuring Pancho or the horses.
