Throughout history man has been almost obsessed with destroying himself and others. Whether it be with a club, a sword, or a nuclear bomb, the impulse has always been the same. And underneath that impulse is one emotion: fear.

In Primal, authors Clive Barker, D.G. Chichester, and Erik Saltzgaber wonder how it could ever be any worse. The answer: if fear itself were to become stronger…maybe even…to take on a physical form?

That’s exactly what happened in a military research facility, where a twisted psychologist devoted loving attention to a being called the Riven. The Riven feeds on emotion, and can produce pure, primal fear in those who come near it. Sick, grotesque delusions of guilt and terror.

The Riven used its power to escape the complex. Now fear has a name. And a body. And it’s living among us.
