Courtney Crumrin & the Coven of Mystics

    (Oni, 2002-2003)
™ and ©2002 Ted Naifeh

Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things introduced the little witch-to-be, her Uncle Aloysius, the mystical world in which they operate, and the personal hell that is Courtney’s elementary school. This follow-up limited series from the very talented Ted Naifeh is a bit darker than its predecessor and does more to develop the supernatural aspects of the series. Sure, Courtney’s still having trouble fitting in at school, and her new teacher, Miss Crisp (who has some connection to Courtney’s uncle), isn’t making things any easier on her, but there are bigger fish frying. Something’s coming out of the woods at night and killing the magic-users—which doesn’t bode well for Courtney and her uncle, as they are magic-users and Aloysius is pretty skilled one at that. In fact, he’s so good that the other mystics ask him to deal with this threat. Good stuff! Fans of Harry Potter, Neil Gaiman, and Mike Mignola should definitely check this out.
