Crap

Crap may be a little self-deprecating as a name for this book because the slice-of-life depiction of five housemates and their lives is intriguing and oddly compelling. Writer/artist J. R. Williams has a clean uncluttered style and the ability to find humor in material that would normally not be considered eventful enough to be grist for the mill.

The character design of some of the cast is distinctive to the point of grotesque. Milt the Mutation, who has frog-like face and Claire who wears a skin-tight leotard below her rather flattened, oblong, hairless head are two of the more bizarre. Think Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor, but with more outlandish characters. Milt also appeared in J. R. Williams’ Fun House.
