Batman/Captain America
(DC, 1996)
™ and ©1996 DC Comics and Marvel Characters, Inc.
John Byrne is well-known for being a diverse writer/artist/creator. With Chris Claremont, he helped define the X-Men and he is also the man who revamped the origins of both Superman and Spider-Man. With credentials like that, it is only natural that he be selected to pen and ink this crossover between DC and Marvel.
The story takes place during the 1940's, the Golden Age of comics. The Batman we are presented with is not the brooding manhunter of the modern films, but is the original character who had no problem handing out a smile now and then. He and Captain America (with teen sidekicks Robin and Bucky) investigate the theft of the atomic bomb from the "Gotham Project" by the Joker and the Red Skull. Together they must prevent the criminals from destroying Washington DC.
A good read for comics fans of any ages, this is a timeless tale that doesn't get the attention it probably deserves.
