The Silver Surfer (Vol. 1)

Norrin Radd was an inhabitant of the perfect, but boring, world of Zenn-La. His only comfort was his love for Shalla Bal. Then tragedy struck in the form of an alien spaceship bearing Galactus. Zenn-La’s best defenses were no match for this devourer of worlds. Galactus would have utterly destroyed Zenn-La had not Radd volunteered to become his herald, helping him find uninhabited worlds to satisfy Galactus’ need for energy. Galactus covered Radd with “cosmic glaze,” gave him awesome powers, and a sort of interstellar surfboard to travel upon.

As the Silver Surfer, Radd served Galactus for a time until Galactus insisted on destroying Earth. The Surfer stopped him, with the help of the Fantastic Four, but Galactus constructed an energy barrier to trap the Surfer on Earth as punishment for his rebellion. This series chronicles his early adventures on Earth as he deals with issues of good and evil, scripted by Stan Lee in perhaps his best work.
