Rocky Mountain King
(L. Miller & Son)
™ and © L. Miller & Son, Ltd.
Lest anyone believe that adventures of the Wild West are confined to American shores, never fear. In this old series, British creative talents chronicle “Fighting Stories of the Great West,” and it’s an interesting perspective on the classic cowboys and Indians comic. The man known as Rocky King is a square-jawed, justice-fighting cowboy, joined by both Indian friends like “Red Bull” and “Young Beaver,” but also confronted with “redskin” foes like the savage Sioux. (Clearly these comics were published long before there was such a concept as political correctness.) King has cowboys and cavalry soldiers on his side in some battles—and in others, he’s battling against those same men, coming into Laramie as gun-running scoundrels in need of a good whuppin.’
Through each story, Rocky King shines through as what he is, a true comic book hero of the Old West. It doesn’t have to be published in America for its writers to get it right. Published in Europe by L. Miller & Son Ltd., in black-and-white.
