Josie & the Pussycats
(Archie, 1969-1982)
™ and © Archie Publications
Longtime Betty and Veronica artist Dan DeCarlo created Josie and named her after his wife. Originally, the series was titled “She’s Josie,” and was basically an alternative universe story based on Archie and the gang published by the same company. Later, when Archie formed the fictional-turned-reality musical group The Archies, Josie followed in turn and created Josie & the Pussycats. This is when the series really took off and it spawned a Saturday morning cartoon, a record album and much later, a live-action feature film.
