Mad Monster Party
(Dell, 1967)
™ and © Dell Publishing Co.
Fans of the Rankin-Bass special Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer will be able to recognize the similar look of this feature film featuring small, animated figures. This comic book adaptation and movie have more connections to the comic book world than one could imagine. The story is written by Harvey Kurtzman, better known to comic book readers as the original editor and writer of Mad, and also Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat. The characters are designed after models drawn by the legendary Jack Davis, who also worked for Mad, and a zillion other projects. Davis does not draw this adaptation, which does a fine job of recreating the movie story about a man invited to a party featuring all of the famous Universal monsters such as Frankenstein, Dracula and the rest.
