Superman: The Doomsday Wars

Lana Lang has just given birth to her and Pete Ross’s baby, but to save its life she must call on Clark Kent—and Superman—for help. Guilt-ridden by memories of another child he was unable to save, Superman can’t say no, even when a crisis on a larger scale arises: the devastating return of Doomsday. And when the fearsome monster that killed Superman a while back easily dispatches the rest of the JLA, the situation is even more dire. Throw a vengeful Brainiac into the mix and one wonders if Superman will be able to save himself, let alone an innocent child.

This lengthy one-shot interweaves the present battle with Superman’s recollections of an earlier tragedy, many years before, where 18-year-old Clark Kent and friends Lana and Pete tried to save Pa Kent’s cattle from a brutal snowstorm. The emotional tale is written and drawn by Dan Jurgens.
