Blackthorne’s 3 in 1
(Blackthorne, 1986-1987)
™ and © Blackthorne Publishing Inc.
Blackthorne Publishing is perhaps best known for their 3-D series, featuring stories ranging from movie adaptations like Star Wars and Moonwalker, to 3-D versions of popular characters such as Casper, the Flintstones, even the California Raisins. This anthology series, however, was printed in black-&-white without any of Blackthorne’s usual special effects. Besides spotlighting the talents of newer or lesser-known creators, this comic also provided another venue for some of the publisher’s original characters and concepts, such as MerlinRealm and 3-D Heroes. Although each of the three stories are capable of standing alone (except for the cliffhanger, of course), they do rely on enough previously established characters and situations that new readers might be more confused than intrigued.
